One evening in 2016, Jamaaladeen Tacuma invited two of his musical heroes Henry Grimes and Odean Pope for a meeting with Philadelphia’s young lions of the avant garde , Justin Faulkner., Nazir Ebo and Heru Shabaka Ra. This cross generational musical meeting brought about an exchange of musical ideas that were not encumbered by a pre arranged and planned out compositions. The musicians spent no time discussing what would be played , or what should be played. The cumulative creative energy of the 50 decades of living as African American Musicians as keepers of the mythical music language sparked and launched the music into a cosmic journey that only true masters of their craft could embark on . During a listening session Jamaaladeen asked Henry Grimes what he would like to name the album . He replied “Spark/Fire” . This album is dedicated to both Henry Grimes and James G. Spady award winning journalist and historian who spent the evening interviewing the performers Both Henry and James passed away during the 2020 Covid 19 Pandemic.
