There is a deep and long lasting relationship between the musicians in the USA and Moroccan Musicians. Maestro Randy Weston is well known as one of the first American Jazz musicians to form a strong and lasting bond with the people of Morocco and its music. Jamaaladeen’s Mentor Ornette Coleman collaborated with The Master Musicians of Joujouka of Morocco on his seminal album Dancing in Your Head of which Jamaaladeen was a part. Rock and Pop music icons like Mandrill, The Rolling Stones and Peter Gabriel have looked to Morocco for inspiration. Fast forward to 2016, Jamaaladeen received an incredible invitation from Neila Tazi and Karim Ziad to perform at the legendary Gnaoua World Music Festival. The festival is world renown for its fusion concerts pairing musicians from around the world with Gnaoua musicians from Morocco . It would be Jamaaladeen’s first deep immersion into Gnaoua Music and he was forever changed. He connected with the people and the music on many levels, he is a Muslim American and the Sufi folk songs were felt deeply on a spiritual level , the sintir instrument is the origin of the bass guitar , the very instrument that has been his musical voice for over 50 years, even the physical shape and design of the instrument is very similar to the look of his beloved Steinberger bass. The colors and designs surrounding him, the flavors of the food and generous spirit of the people all sparked his creative energy and made this a truly life changing experience.
This recording is the result of International music artist, producer, composer and electric bass guitarist Jamaaladeen Tacuma's collaboration with Morocco's up and coming Gnawa group Binat Gania. Guest artist includes Gnawa musician Samir Langus on sintir and vocals, DJ King Britt on soundscapes, guitarist Herve Samb and Rick Iannacone, Wolfgang Puschnig on Hojak, Ahmad Compaore on drums, Yoichi Uzeki on organ and Bob Wisdom on vocals. This combination of ancient African Gnawa traditional instrumentation and musical themes along with Jamaaladeen's sense of production in funk and groove mashes together a completely new sound fresh to the global listening audience. The music is powerful with emotion and intensity and for sure will bring the audience to their dancing feet. Take a listen you will agree that this is the new sound wave of the future. "This recording marks a milestone in my musical career carrying on the idea of bridging the musical gap culturally along with preserving and celebrating Gnawa music and it's rich repertoire of ancient African song, rhythm and dance. Long live Gnawa."

I was brought here after listening to a live performance of Makaya's on you tube. I instantly loved the song Holy Lands so much that I had to see if the album version was the same rendition as the live one. Then I listened to the whole album! Universal Beings is a just a groove... It's a mix of traditional and something new, very nice. pandr1900
