The Door of No Return

from Revolutionary Royalty by Brotherzone

about

This track was created for the release of this album in 2014, using pre existing recorded materials. Jamaaladeen was on tour with The Last Poets for their 40th anniversary tour. The tour took them to Dakar Black Cultural Festival . The band traveled to Goree Island , no one can visit this place and not be emotionally moved. For a person of African descent this place evokes a great range of emotions as it was the place that all of the slaves passed through on their way to the America's. Jamaaladeen was greatly inspired by the Goree Drum ensembles that were there on the island entertaining the tourists. As a producer he carries mobile recording tools , he recorded the drum troupe one afternoon during the tour. Also featured on this track is the multi multidisciplinary artist Terry Adkins on the pocket trumpet going through electronics. This track was created with samples of Terry and the Goree Drum Troupe. Jamaaladeen accompanies Terry and the percussionists to complete the track.- The building at Goree Island where the stolen African hostages were held before loading onto slave ships has a doorway they call “The Door of No Return” . The song was named after that location.
